Sanctuary Empowerment Centre is a non-denominational, Bible believing church family, which was established in March 1992 by its Founder Bishop Dr. Marlon Husbands. Since 1992, Sanctuary Empowerment Centre has grown into a formidable movement for the 21st Century. From a mere 25 members in 1992, the membership now stands at approximately 600 persons, with a congregational reach of well over 800 persons.

OUR FOCUS

As a church we are committed to the “True worship” of God, making disciples, and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to lost men and women of our world. Also, we have pledged ourselves to touching lives through LOVE – sharing with the lost, caring for the dying, looking out for the hurting, feeding the hungry, loving the brethren and praying for God’s BLESSINGS upon our nation.

HOW WE SEE OURSELVES

The Sanctuary Organization sees itself as both a church and a developing corporation; as a result, we are structured to facilitate our vision.

As a Ministry, we are committed to providing personal and spiritual empowerment for our members. In addition we seek to assist in wealth creation for the benefit of the many who are suffering both in and out of our church. This was Jesus’ passion while he walked this earth and likewise, it is equally ours; as captured in our mission-motto: "Taking a Living Christ to a dying world through an empowered Church."

OUR SENIOR PASTOR

Bishop Dr. Marlon O’N Husbands

Dr. Husbands is the Founder of Sanctuary Empowerment Centre; a fast-growing congregation with an eye on the pulse of the nation. Dr. Husbands has been serving this Ministry for the past 23 Years and also functions as President and Founder of Sanctuary Ministries International Inc.

He served as a Part-Time Lecturer in the department of General and Continuing Education at the Barbados Community College and has both a Bachelor of Theology Degree (Hons.) and a Masters degree with a Major in Counseling. He also holds an earned Doctor of Divinity degree from Master’s International School of Divinity, Indiana, U.S.A

A professional Counselor with 23 years experience, Dr. Husbands has served as a Counselor within the Magistrate Courts system of Barbados and as a Chat Room Counselor with the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC TV), Barbados. W.I.

Husbands is author of the book, “DARE TO BELIEVE…the supernatural is within you”. This book has already made waves both locally and internationally, making its impact as far afield as Africa. Testimonies of God’s supernatural work through this rear revelation have witnessed persons’ transition to a deeper walk with God. He is a noted speaker on the daily radio program: “Empowered for Life” – citing POWER POINTS that are changing people’s lives naturally and spiritually; which he shares with his wife on two local radio stations (LIFE 97.5 FM & CITA Radio FM). Dr. Husbands carries a rare but much needed “Wisdom Mantle” and nurtures God’s mandate to empower leaders. With the overwhelming passion to see God’s Kingdom advanced within nations, he describes himself as a motivator, strategic thinker and visionary with a passion for empowering and equipping believers both nationally and globally. Married to Rev. Suzette Husbands for the past 25 years, their union has produced four sons, ages 22, 19 and twins 16 Years old.

After more than 25 years in full-time ministry, Husbands continues to be a leading voice of faith, innovation, inspiration, and influence within the Barbadian landscape and senses a call towards making global impact.

OUR CO-PASTOR

Rev. Suzette P.E. Husbands

In the Suzette P.E. Husbands has been involved in Christian ministry most of her adult life and has served with her husband, Bishop Dr. Marlon Husbands, throughout their entire marriage of 25 years, a union which has produced four (4) handsome sons.

Mid-nineties Pastor Sue, as she is affectionately called by The Sanctuary Empowerment Centre family, a teenager then, was known for her anointed singing, which captured the hearts of Barbadians far and wide and to this day she is still remembered for such impact. Her love for God and powerful preaching-anointing has given her the opportunity to share with several congregations in Barbados. Pastor Sue possesses a contagious anointing when it comes to the delivery of God’s word and carries a special grace to bring mentorship, coaching and healing to women of all walks of life.

A passionate teacher/speaker, she holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology & Political Science, a Masters in Human Resources Management and a Masters in Religious Education. Rev. Husbands possesses the rare ability to reach and stir her audiences. In addition to raising four sons, she has assumed an active role at The Sanctuary Empowerment Centre where her husband serves as Senior Pastor. She is the Co-Pastor of the church and administrates both the Worship and Women’s Ministries and manages the Human Resource aspects of the church. She and her husband host the daily radio programme, Empowered for Life. Being very strong in prayer, The Sanctuary Empowerment Centre family attributes Pastor Sue’s wisdom and leadership to the emphasis she places on a close personal relationship with God whom she dearly loves and serves.

SANCTUARY EMPOWERMENT CENTRE MINISTRIES:

With the philosophy of every believer being a minister and the goal of having total membership involvement in ministry, we are inspired to constantly provide ministry opportunities for our members. Hence, we do not limit ministry just to the conventional activities for men, women etc., but allow our members to discover their gifting and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in the formation of new ministries.

For us the Christian life involves more than just believing, it also includes BELONGING and PARTICIPATING. Sanctuary is about moving you from awareness of your church to active membership and participation in your church.

Bible-Based Teaching:

We believe in the whole Bible, rightly divided and that the New Testament is the only guide for discipline and ministry expression.

Spirit-Filled Worship:

We see Holy Spirit as administrator of His church and seek to ensure that all decisions made are incited by Him.

Spirit-Driven Living:

We believe that Holy Spirit should have the preeminence in our personal decision-making

Saving of the Lost:

We believe that Jesus Christ was sent of the Father to save the lost. Equally, our mission is to provide every possible opportunity for lost persons to be saved.

Relevant Christianity:

Though the gospel message does not change, we believe that methodology does. As a result, we seek to live and present the gospel through contemporary (modern) ways.

Importance of Every Member:

Every earthly achievement is leveled at the foot of the cross; therefore, every member of Sanctuary Empowerment Centre is viewed with equal importance.

Christianity is not about programs and activities, rather it is about people. We are therefore, committed to fostering loving and caring environments for people to grow.

Ministry of Reconciliation:

It doesn’t matter what a person does, we do not have the power to judge or condemn; therefore, we take responsibility to nurture such a one to Christ’s healing through love.

Habitation of Holy Spirit:

We desire for God to be ever present with us in corporate gatherings; therefore, we nurture His presence through worship and godly living.

Empowerment of Every Believer to Minister:

God has entrusted every believer with a spiritual gift(s) so that they may serve in ministry; therefore, it is our commitment to empower them to be of service for the Kingdom.

THE SANCTUARY STATEMENTS:

PURPOSE

To glorify God by making disciples of all its members, empowering them to multiply themselves through creative ministry to unbelievers, and becoming more Christ-like in life and service to God and each other (Eph.4: 11-12).

FAITH

Sanctuary stands for the whole Bible rightly divided. The New Testament is the only rule for government and discipline.

VISION

To create a national culture-shift by advancing the Kingdom of God into the ruling spheres of religion, government & Law, arts, sports & entertainment, media, family, education, and business.

MISSION

To Take a Living Christ to a dying world through an empowered church (Acts.1:8).
